The Loc & Braid Bar Now Open on Main Street

CINCINNATI (June 25, 2024) – Formerly located on 12th Street in Over-the-Rhine (OTR), self-taught hairstylist Amber Nixon recently relocated her salon, The Loc & Braid Bar, to a 600-square-foot space in 3CDC’s Keyer Row development. Now situated at 1239 Main Street, the salon is actively booking appointments for a range of services including locs, braids, cuts, color, extensions, barbering and more.

Nixon’s career, which began as a hobby in her home, has grown tremendously over the last several years. Prior to opening in her own space, she also worked in two other salons. When her landlord made the decision to repurpose the building that housed her salon on 12th Street, Nixon began searching for a new place to call home.

“For years I worked a corporate job downtown and I’ve always admired the walkability of OTR,” Nixon said. “People want to be here, and I knew I had to find another space nearby – one that people would walk by regularly. I also recognized a need in the neighborhood for a salon that could provide services like locs and braids – a place that promotes healthy haircare without all the harsh chemicals.”

In addition to herself, Nixon also employs a licensed cosmetologist and barber cosmetologist to ensure the salon can provide a variety of services to clients. The Loc & Braid bar strives to deliver an experience that feels like a true day off. Clients simply have to show up and Nixon and her staff will do the rest. Depending on the service, clients can count on 2-3 hours of pampering.

“It’s empowering to see so many women making their dreams come true with businesses they have built from the ground up,” said Lindzie Gunnels, Commercial Leasing Manager with 3CDC. “The Loc & Braid Bar is helping to fulfill a unique need here in OTR and I’m so glad we were able to work with Amber to find a space that suited her salon so well. We can’t wait to see how her business and clientele grow in the neighborhood.”

The Loc & Braid Bar caters to both children and adults, offering appointments at https://www.styleseat.com/m/v/thelocandbraidbar. While appointments are strongly encouraged, walk-ins are also welcome based on availability. The salon is open Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 6 PM and is closed on Sunday.

3CDC’s $8.5M Keyer Row development consists of the renovation of three historic buildings located at 1221-1249 Main Street into 22 new apartment units, including five affordable units for those making 80% of the Area Median Income, and six commercial spaces. In addition to The Loc & Braid Bar, Keyer Row is also home to The Lash Experience by Marie, Thee MakeUp Room and the OTR Chamber of Commerce.
