Pedestrian Plaza to Play Host to Full Weekend of Celebratory Events

CINCINNATI (June 11, 2021) –Cincinnati Center City Development Corp. (3CDC) and several partners are set to present a full weekend of events and festivities to celebrate the completion of the revitalized Court Street Plaza, the reimagined outdoor promenade located on Court Street between Vine and Walnut streets in Downtown Cincinnati.

The festivities will kick off this evening with the unveiling of the first piece of artwork completed as part of the $5.5 million Court Street Plaza revitalization project, which is a collaboration between the City of Cincinnati and 3CDC. Local artist Gee Horton will be on hand to present his new mural, Coming of Age, today at 4 p.m., the first in a weekend full of events.

Tomorrow morning, Mayor John Cranley, Kroger Chairman & CEO Rodney McMullen, project partners and key stakeholders will gather together to unveil the recently completed project to the public with an official ribbon cutting event at 11 a.m. Both before and after the ribbon cutting, the Plaza will play host to a market featuring over 20 vendors, and will showcase live music from local musicians.

The revitalized Court Street Plaza is the result of a year-and-a-half’s worth of planning and construction to create a more vibrant outdoor space along Court Street. The finished product features widened sidewalks that not only make it safer for pedestrians but also allow for outdoor dining, events and programming; a festival-style street that allows the street to be easily closed to vehicular traffic on a temporary basis for a full pedestrian thoroughfare; short-term parking spaces in front of businesses; and public art throughout. With the construction completed, 3CDC will take over management of the space, providing regular programming and ensuring the area is clean and safe.

The full weekend of programming has been designed to welcome visitors to the new outdoor civic space. Businesses in the area will be open and the 1883 Food Truck will be onsite to help celebrate during the Court Street Market taking place Saturday.

The weekend’s festivities will conclude with the Court Street Cruise-In on Sunday, which will feature more than 20 classic cars on display, as well as live music on the temporary stage being constructed for the weekend’s events.
