Fountain Square Ice Rink Celebrates 10 Years

Anniversary marked with new look and offers

CINCINNATI (October 10, 2016) – 3CDC has teamed up with two local companies, The Gorilla Glue Company and Fifth Third Bank, to celebrate the 10th year of operation for a local favorite: The Fountain Square Ice Rink.

It was 10 years ago, in 2006, that 3CDC and the City of Cincinnati reopened Fountain Square to the public after a $48 million renovation that included the 600-space parking garage beneath the 2-acre plaza. It was the start of a new day for downtown, as the unveiling of the ice rink was the first major event to be held on the renovated public space after the square’s grand re-opening, and its daily operations thereafter served as the first programming.

The ice rink will reopen later this month as the O’Keeffe’s Ice Rink, presented by Fifth Third Bank, boasting a bigger footprint and a longer season than in 2006.

The Gorilla Glue Company, a family owned and operated organization based in Cincinnati, owns the O’Keeffe’s® brand, which offers skincare products “that work as hard as you do.” In a desire to expand local recognition of its O’Keeffe’s brand and products in a treasured, high-traffic location, the company teamed up with another Cincinnati-based business – Fifth Third Bank – and 3CDC to re-brand the ice rink for its 10-year birthday.

O’Keeffe’s will help celebrate the rink’s 10th birthday by giving away a free O’Keeffe’s Lip Repair® Lip Balm (a $4 value) with every admission. Fifth Third Bank will offer “Fifth Third Thursdays,” giving free skate rental (a $4 value) to every admission purchased with a Fifth Third debit or credit card on Thursdays throughout the entire season.

The O’Keeffe’s Ice Rink, presented by Fifth Third Bank, is an outdoor ice arena that will take over Fountain Square from Halloween through President’s Day. The rink includes admissions and rental tents with 600 pairs of skates; a full-service concessions tent with hot and cold snacks, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages; and the 60’ Lykins Energy Solutions Warming Tent with viewing platform and benches.

The rink is open seven days a week – from October 28 through February 20, with Pre-Season, Holiday Season, and Post-Season hours – and offers programmed events throughout each season, including Light Up the Square and the New Year’s Eve Blast.

As build-out of the O’Keeffe’s Ice Rink, presented by Fifth Third Bank, begins on October 14, Cincinnati residents and visitors alike will begin to see the new rink design unfold. An opening weekend celebration is planned for October 28-30, including an on-ice costume contest on Saturday, October 29.
