Microblading Studio to Join the Mix in OTR

MicrOTR Signs Lease for Space on Republic Street

CINCINNATI (January 17, 2018) – MicrOTR, a permanent makeup studio owned by Erica Kidder, recently signed a lease for a 987-square-foot space at 1405 Republic Street. Located in the heart of Over-the-Rhine – near Salazar, Yoga Bar and Low Spark – the space is being leased from the Cincinnati Center City Development Corp. (3CDC).

An expansion of Dayton Microblading, the new studio will specialize in the art of manual microblading – permanent cosmetics that replicate the look of hair strokes in the eyebrow, creating fullness, definition and balance. A sort of “tattoo,” the process involves two separate treatments. The first treatment enhances one’s eyebrows and deposits the first layer of pigment into the skin with a small hand tool composed of sterile, disposable needles. The second treatment, which takes places 8-12 weeks later, is a touch-up to correct any irregularities in the microbladed hair strokes. The microbladed brows last 6-24 months, depending on skin type, lifestyle, and any medications one might take.

MicrOTR will also serve as a training facility, offering microblading training programs taught by Kidder. These programs will be the most in-depth in the area, including six days of in-person training, focused solely on manual microblading. Trainees will also complete 100 hours of study, grouped into pre-course work, theory instruction and clinical practice. As a member of The Society of Permanent Cosmetics Professionals, Kidder hopes to expose new artists to its standards and regulations with an overall mission to tailor a comprehensive program for the region that strengthens the microblading community through respect for the industry.

Formerly working as a master stylist, Kidder discovered microblading roughly four years ago – before the new art form had made its way to the Midwest – and instantly knew that she wanted to pursue a career in permanent cosmetics. Shortly thereafter, as microblading gained in popularity, it completely took over her business and she stopped styling hair altogether.

“Giving my guests perfect hair and a boost of self-confidence was my specialty – until I discovered microblading,” said Kidder, who has been in the beauty industry for nearly 10 years.

In 2016, Kidder made microblading her full-time business, opening Dayton Microblading – the first permanent makeup studio in the Greater Dayton area to specialize in the art of manual microblading. Business in Dayton has kept her busier than she ever dreamed possible – and the demand for microbladed brows is still on the rise. Next month, Kidder will open up shop in the Queen City, expanding to Over-the-Rhine and bringing her talents to a new audience in Cincinnati.

“My background in cosmetology has provided me with an exceptional understanding of color theory, proportion and balance, all of which greatly compliment my unique aesthetic in permanent cosmetics,” Kidder said. “My work has become such an essential part of who I am and it has added to what I can give back to the people in my life.”

Although the studio will not officially open until February, MicrOTR is already accepting appointments. Scheduling is handled online only and prices vary depending on artist.  Training inquiries and bookings can also be submitted via the website.
