Occasion Celebrated with Grand Reopening Ceremony
CINCINNATI (August 8, 2017) – Leaders from the City of Cincinnati, Cincinnati Park Board, and Cincinnati Center City Development Corp. (3CDC) gathered this afternoon at a ceremony to officially celebrate the grand reopening of the renovated and expanded Ziegler Park. Project funders, project partners, residents and neighborhood youth were also on hand to commemorate the occasion.
Located at 1322 Sycamore Street, between the neighborhoods of Over-the-Rhine and Pendleton, the park is now home to the only public deep-water swimming pool in the area, which opened to the public on Sat., June 10. In addition, the park’s new 400-space underground parking garage opened to the public on Sat., July 1. The completion of the balance of the park – which includes renovated basketball courts, a children’s playground, game grove, and more – was recognized at today’s celebration.
Construction on the renovation of Ziegler Park, which involved expanding the space from 1.5 to 4.5 acres, began in February 2016. Turner Construction served as the general contractor on the project, and the design team was comprised of glaserworks, Human Nature, Brandstetter Carroll, Perfido Weiskopf Wagstaff + Goettel (PWWG), KLH Engineers and THP Limited.
The $32 million project was funded by a grant from the City of Cincinnati; New Markets Tax Credits from Capital One, Cincinnati Development Fund, The Community Builders, and the Cincinnati New Markets Fund; loans from the Ohio Development Services Agency and Cincinnati Equity Fund II (CEF II); and private donors, including the Kantor family, Farmer Family Foundation, and Jacob G. Schmidlapp Trusts, Fifth Third Bank, Trustee, among many others.
3CDC will oversee day-to-day management of the renovated park’s operations and maintenance, in partnership with the Cincinnati Park Board, and 3CDC will be responsible for the park’s programming.
Grand Reopening celebrations will continue at the Park throughout the week, with free activities for all age groups, and will be a great opportunity for individuals to see everything the renovated Ziegler Park has to offer.
