Official Tree-Lighting Celebration to Commence November 25
CINCINNATI (November 4, 2016) – Cincinnati’s annual holiday tree is set to arrive at Fountain Square early Saturday morning. A 50-foot Blue Spruce, provided by Mr. & Mrs. Greg Tube of Ashland, OH, will begin its procession to Fountain Square late Friday evening. Upon its arrival on Saturday, November 5, it will be lifted into place on the southwest corner of the square as the 2016 Macy’s Holiday Tree. Strands of decorative lights and a five-foot-tall, red Macy’s star will be added over the course of the next few days that follow.
Zuk’s Tree Moving will leave northern Ohio shortly after midnight on Friday, and is expected to arrive in downtown Cincinnati by 6 a.m. Saturday morning. Atlas Industrial Contractors and Maxim Crane will start the tree installation at 7 a.m., likely finishing up by Noon, at which point the decoration of the tree will begin.
The O’Keeffe’s Ice Rink, presented by Fifth Third Bank, will open for skating at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Families are welcome join 3CDC for a Tree Trimming Party in the Lykins Energy Solutions Warming Tent while the Holiday Tree is installed. From 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., Cathy and Lily Barney of Artsy Fartsy Saturdays will help children create a large 3D paper star for their own tree or to use as a decoration. Admission to the rink is required to participate in this activity. Standard admission and skate rental rates apply.
In addition to Zuk’s Tree Moving, Atlas Industrial Contractors and Maxim Crane, the tree and installation would not be possible without the help of HGC Construction, Secon Inc., Hilltop Basic Resources, Quality Towing, Christmas Lighting Company, United Electric, Sunbelt Rentals and the Cincinnati Park Board.
The Holiday Tree serves as the centerpiece of the 2016 Macy’s Light Up the Square event, which will take place on Friday, November 25, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
