CONVENTION HEADQUARTERS HOTEL

Over the past several years, it has become increasingly evident that the Duke Energy Convention Center and surrounding area, referred to as the Convention District, has a variety of issues that are preventing Cincinnati’s tourism industry from bringing in the volume of large-size and high-quality shows and conventions that our region must attract to compete with our peer cities. The City of Cincinnati and Hamilton County selected 3CDC to serve as a Development Manager for the Convention District in order to address these challenges.

One critical piece of the Convention District is the construction of a new convention headquarters hotel to support the travel and hospitality industry. The hotel will be built on a current surface parking lot just south of the Convention Center, at Fifth and Plum streets. Portman Holdings, a developer with experience overseeing many similar projects, has been recommended by stakeholder groups in the Cincinnati region to enter into exclusive negotiations with 3CDC to serve as the developer of the hotel. The hotel could include up to 800 rooms, 60,000 to 80,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, 15,000 square feet of retail, a pool, outdoor amenity deck, plus junior and senior ballrooms. Construction could begin as soon as the second or third quarter of 2024 and it will take approximately two years to build the structure.
