4th & Race Development Suffers Partial Collapse

Portion of Seventh Floor Fell into Sixth Floor During Concrete Pour

CINCINNATI (November 25, 2019) – A portion of the 4th & Race mixed-use development collapsed earlier today. The project is a partnership between Cincinnati Center City Development Corp. (3CDC) and Indianapolis-based developer Flaherty & Collins, and will consist of a 584-space above-grade parking garage, 22,000 square feet of street-level commercial space, and a 264-unit apartment building, beginning at level 7.

The partial collapse occurred during a concrete pour on the Seventh Floor, which fell into the Sixth Floor. This was the highest level of the structure that had been completed. When finished, the building will be 14 stories tall.

3CDC is the developer for the commercial space and the garage, which was topped out last month, while Flaherty & Collins is developing the apartments. Turner Construction serves as the General Contractor for the entire project.

3CDC has collaborated with Turner Construction on several large-scale projects in the past, including the recently completed Kroger On the Rhine mixed-use development and Ziegler Park. They’re a national firm with an excellent reputation for safety at job sites, which has been our experience every time we have worked with the organization.

Crews are still working to account for all individuals who were on site. Based on what we know at this time, three individuals have been injured, and each was transported to the hospital for further evaluation. Our thoughts are with the injured workers, who we hope recover quickly, and their families.

We appreciate the rapid response from the Cincinnati Fire and Police Departments, and we are grateful for the overall support from our partners at the City of Cincinnati.

Construction will be paused as project partners work to determine the cause of the collapse and confirm the structural integrity of the rest of the building.
